NMS DUR Response Messages
This section is applicable to Ontario pharmacies only.
An NMS response message may appear as an acknowledgement for the pharmacist after an NMS transaction is submitted. While the response message may prompt the pharmacist at the time of billing, this is only meant to provide real-time information on the use or misuse of narcotics and controlled medications to all healthcare providers and does not prevent the dispensing of the medication. Review the Code, Response Description, Recommendation, and Response Message in the Response Messages window, and then select OK to continue.
For details on the different DUR Response Codes and their meanings, refer to the Ontario Drug Programs Reference Manual.
The following example explains how to read the NMS response message. In this example, the message is notifying the user that the patient has filled the same drug at another pharmacy. In this situation, it is helpful to know the quantity filled and the date it was filled. The DIN is displayed, as is the telephone number of the other pharmacy. This information allows the pharmacist to determine whether or not this is truly a case of poly-pharmacy.
